چکیده

In this paper, we present a single-shot transverse emittance measurement for 125 ± 3 MeV electron beam using pepper-pot technique. A normalised transverse emittance as low as 1.1 ± 0.1 -mm-mrad was measured using this method. Considering 60 consecutive shots, an average normalised emittance of εrms,x,y=2.2 ± 0.7, 2.3 ± 0.6 -mm-mrad was obtained, which is comparable to a conventional linear accelerator. We also obtained high energy monoenergetic electron beam with relative energy spread less than 1%. The measured transverse emittance characterises the quality of an electron beam generated from laser-driven accelerator. Brightness, parallelism and focusability are all functions of the emittance. The low emittance and energy spread indicates that this type of accelerator is suitable for compact free electron laser driver.

Low emittance electron beam generation from a laser wakefield accelerator using two laser pulses with different wavelengths

Ionization injection triggered by short wavelength laser pulses inside a nonlinear wakefield driven by a longer wavelength laser is examined via multidimensional particle-in-cell simulations. We find that very bright electron beams can be generated through this two-color scheme in either collinear propagating or transverse colliding geometry. For a fixed laser intensity I, lasers with longer/sh...

Conceptual Design for a 1-GeV IFEL Accelerator

A conceptual design for a multistaged 1-GeV IFEL laser-driven accelerator (laser linac) was developed using the Staged Electron Laser Acceleration (STELLA) inverse free electron laser (IFEL) model created at STI Optronics. A comparison with the UCLA TREDI model yields good agreement with the STELLA model. The 1-GeV IFEL laser linac consists of an IFEL buncher for forming microbunches and four I...
